Purpose

Recycling generally is viewed within government as an opportunity for job creation. The paper sector recognised that to accelerate job creation, small businesses, run by entrepreneurs had to be created so that those businesses could create jobs

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the learner with the necessary knowledge and skills in respect of paper recycling as well as introductory business management to potential entrepreneurs so that they can venture into the business environment as Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs). The focus is in promoting a culture of recycling and job creation by providing learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to:

  • Start their own small business.
  • Create efficiency in the collection, recycling and disposal of wastepaper.
  • Ensure best practice in recycling.
  • Ensure that good quality paper is recovered.

Occupational Certificate: Early Childhood Development Practitioner 
Early Childhood Development has been designed to meet the needs and interests of the early childhood development sector in a variety of settings and contexts with an inclusive focus on education, health and safety issues, amongst others. There is a vast need for early childhood development services, and it is critical that the field must be served by competent practitioners to meet the needs at early childhood development level, it is important to be able to identify and recognise competent early childhood development practitioners who are able to work in centre-based and non-centre-based early childhood development settings.

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as an Early Childhood Development Practitioner. 
An Early Childhood Development Practitioner plans and prepares early childhood activities, facilitates and mediates learning, observes and assesses the progress of children, and reflects on learning in an inclusive, play-based environment to support holistic development of children (from conception – school going) in different centre-based or non-centre-based settings. 

A qualified learner will be able to:

  • Plan and prepare broad-phase learning environment and stimulating activities that meet the holistic needs of all children in centre-based or non-centre-based settings.
  • Facilitate and mediate all aspects of the daily programme in a centre-based or non-centre based setting.
  • Observe, assess and record each child’s progress according to the age and stage.
  • Compile a report of each child’s progress.

The focus is on education and training as a means of establishing SMMEs and promoting a culture of recycling; to promote job creation by providing attendees with the necessary skills and training to start their own small business; to create efficiency in the collection, recycling and disposal of waste paper; to ensure best practice in recycling through educational work and technical support and to ensure that good quality paper is recovered.

Visual Merchandising can help create a positive customer image of the business and its products that leads to successful sales. It not only communicates the stores image but also reinforces the retail outlet’s advertising efforts. It also encourages impulse buying and thus a role such as this requires a competent Visual Merchandiser.

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Visual Merchandiser. A Visual Merchandiser plans, develops and displays merchandise visually to create and maintain interest in the chosen target market and promote sales.
